From what I know we were forced to do that, because of some bugs or inconsistencies (FF on Mac and Opera?). But now this [http://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/10926#comment:4 event is finally gone] and we [http://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/11677#comment:8 don't seem to need it].
