#14899 closed Task (fixed)

Google Maps does not work with mediaembed

Reported by: kkrzton Owned by: Tomasz Jakut
Priority: Normal Milestone: CKEditor 4.6.0
Component: Documentation & Samples Version:
Keywords: Cc:

Description

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to http://sdk.ckeditor.com/samples/mediaembed.html.
  2. Try to embed a link for google maps (https://goo.gl/maps/tWtnj or https://www.google.com/maps/).

Expected result

Google maps is embedded inside the editor.

Actual result

Nothing is embedded inside the editor with Failed to fetch content for the given URL..

Other details (browser, OS, CKEditor version, installed plugins)

Iframely returns 417 Expectation Failed (Iframely codes). I am not sure if it is the issue with CKEditor or some Iframely misconfiguration after some google maps changes/updates.

According to the official example it seems that we need Google Maps API key to obtain embed code (not sure if the oEmbed one or iframely format is even avaiable).

Yep, confirmed. I configured the API key and it works.

Note for all users: the default account used by this plugin is just for demonstration purposes. In Google API Settings, "Accept requests from these HTTP referrers (web sites)" is set to accept only ckeditor.com.

So in order to use google maps on production site you should sign up to at least the "Free "Developer" tier" @ Iframely and provide your own key there (which is free as well).

Fixed with notes added on Media Embed and Semantic Media Embed pages as well as the Embedding Media Resources with oEmbed docs (with 48f943a).
