Text styling only gets applied when text is selected on a Opera/Safari/Chrome Browser

Description

To reproduce the defect

open Ajax sample in Safari, Chrome or Opera browser.

Select a style e.g. font/size/bold/italics etc.

Start typing

Problem:The text formatting does not get applied.

If you select the text you just entered and re-select the text formatting (size/font..etc), the text formatting does now get applied.
