Unable to select a table in IE after merging cells

Description
- Insert a table with default values.
- Enter some content to each cell.
- select one row.
- right click -> merge cells.
- while content in the merged cell is still selected click 'Select table' button.
Result: table is not selected
This happens only when merged cell content is selected, if you click inside the merged cell to deselect the content before clicking 'Select table' button then table will be selected.
This seems to be a IE9/10/11 specific issue.

I was able to reproduce this problem from CKEditor 4.0 in Ie9-11. Beofre this version after merging table cells selection was removed (same for IE8) thus it was possible to select table.
