I confirm it... ESC is the keyboard equivalent for the X button.
The dialogs can be closed with the ESC key, is there a real need to focus the X?
If I open any window/tab in my browser or any other application I can't put the focus on the closing button for that window/tab, and I guess that this is what most users would expect.
Also, the dialogs have the "Cancel" button that it's focusable
